Derrick Freeman, MLT

Bio
Derrick Freeman earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. He earned his Master of Learning Technologies at The Ohio State University. Derrick has a significant amount of experience in video production as a producer, video editor, and videographer. He has been involved in video encoding and streaming for over 20 years and has spent more than last 15 years researching streaming media. He has also been teaching Wowza classes for more than 10 years. Derrick was also an instructor in the Design Department at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio for 5 years. He taught Computer Basics for Mac, Digital Video, Photoshop, and Interactive Digital Theory.
Derrick managed the website for the City of Dayton Television Network’s Video Streaming Channels for 4 years. Their streaming channels were featured in Sorenson Media’s on-line video showcase for several years. In addition to Derrick’s consulting and training work at Freeman Compression Inc., he managed the Streaming and Compression Training Division for GeniusDV for 5 years. Outside of his teaching and consulting duties, Derrick has been a speaker for the following conferences on streaming media: NAB Show, WEVA Expo, Streaming Media East/West, and Unleash. He has also written several articles for “Studio Monthly” magazine.
Over the years, Derrick has worked with video compression and streaming tools such as: Episode, Sorenson Squeeze, Wowza Streaming Engine, Wowza Streaming Server, Flip4Mac, Wirecast, QuickTime Pro, Switch, QuickTime Streaming Server, Wowza Media Server, JW Player, Windows Media Streaming Server, Mediasite, MPEG Streamclip, and Sawmill Professional. Derrick is also a Certified Sawmill Trainer and has also been a beta tester for Sorenson Media’s Sorenson Squeeze. He has also provided QA testing consulting for Telestream for 4 1/2 years on the following products: Wirecast, Episode, Flip4Mac, Gameshow, and ScreenFlow.

Derrick currently serves as President and Video Streaming and Compression Consultant for Freeman Compression Inc. In addition to providing video streaming and compression training to a host of colleges and universities over the years, he has provided training and consulting to many companies, individuals, and organizations through Freeman Compression LLC. He specializes in providing video streaming and compression training and consulting to clients online, on-site and in-class. Derrick’s teaching style allows him to quickly get novices, intermediate, and advanced users up to speed with streaming and compression tools and concepts.
